1. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you sign up for Flickd, we collect the information provided by your sign-in method (Google or Apple Sign-In). This may include your name, email address, and profile photo. You may also create a username and display name within the app.

Usage Data

We collect data you provide through using Flickd, including:

• Swipe preferences — the direction you swipe on content (interested, loved it, not for me, didn't like)
• Watchlist items — movies and TV shows you save to watch
• Viewing sessions — check-in data including what you watched, duration, and mood
• Content preferences — your preferred genres, streaming services, and content type (movies, TV, or both)
• Custom lists — lists you create and the items you add to them
• Social connections — friend requests and accepted friendships

Computed Profiles

Based on your activity, we generate personality profiles, viewing habits, and statistics. These are computed from your swipe and viewing data to power personalized recommendations. You can view these profiles in the app at any time.

Device & Technical Data

We collect your timezone offset to ensure date-based features (daily picks, check-in streaks, viewing history) work correctly in your local time. We also collect standard technical data such as device type and app version for debugging purposes.

2. How We Use Your Data

We use your data to:

• Provide personalized movie and TV show recommendations
• Generate your daily pick, discovery, and watch again suggestions
• Compute your streaming personality profile and viewing habits
• Maintain your watchlist, check-in streaks, and viewing history
• Enable social features like friend connections and user search
• Generate aggregate community statistics (anonymized swipe counts)
• Improve our recommendation algorithms

3. Third-Party Services

Flickd uses the following third-party services:

• Firebase (Google) — authentication and database storage. Your data is stored in Google Cloud Firestore. See Firebase Privacy.
• TMDB (The Movie Database) — movie and TV show metadata, posters, and ratings. Flickd uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB. See TMDB Privacy Policy.
• RevenueCat — subscription management for Flickd Pro. Handles purchase validation through Apple App Store and Google Play. See RevenueCat Privacy.
• PostHog — privacy-focused product analytics on our website to understand how users interact with our marketing pages. See PostHog Privacy.

4. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored securely in Google Cloud Firestore with Firebase security rules that restrict access to authenticated users for their own data only. All communication between the app and our servers uses HTTPS encryption. We do not sell or share your personal data with advertisers.

5. Data Retention

Your data is retained for as long as you maintain an active Flickd account. You can delete individual swipe records and viewing sessions within the app. If you wish to delete your entire account and all associated data, please contact us using the information below.

6. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you (visible in-app)
• Correct inaccurate data by updating your profile
• Delete your swipe history and viewing sessions
• Request complete account deletion
• Export your data upon request

If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have additional rights under the GDPR, including the right to data portability and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.

7. Children's Privacy

Flickd is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected data from a child, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by updating the “last updated” date at the top of this page. Continued use of Flickd after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
